Autonomisation

learning the business of Computational BIM

Autonomation initially hired me as a contractor to build a Grasshopper solution for an engineering client. I then worked full time as a Computational Designer for 1-2 years between 2021 and 2022. Using Grasshopper, Dynamo, Revit API and other AEC software development work, we helped a variety of clients build software solutions that empowered them to acheive better project delivery. This included engineers, architects and urban designers. Unfortunately, due to unfavourable NDAs and IP agreements, there are limitations on what I can say about the specifics. But trust me, the work I did there was awesome!

It was here that I learned valuable skills in managing clients and understanding the economics of the business, as well as how a genuinely collaborative and Agile team operates. Autonomation's business model pivoted away from Computational Design towards more traditional BIM management consultancy, and I wanted to pursue a specialisation in RhinoInside that the mainly Autodesk only based client case they had at the time did not support. However, we have collaborated on some followup projects as a subcontractor since.
